I just wanted to make the character stand out a little. I thought making it gritty and uneven would make it look more ghastly.

This is looking good! Don't be afraid to push the values though. Get some darker shadows in there, like the hair and face. otherwise, really nice job!

When I first saw the thumbnail and clicked on on it I thought, "Hmmm, this person has a taste in art I can relate to, looks like something I've done before." But then I read your comment and I was delighted.
This looks freaking SAH-WEEEET! The field of view is more drastic but it makes it feel more intense. great work!
